I was considering buying into the franchise. I want to leave my job and finish out my years having my own business. Can anyone give pro or cons about their experience after buying into UPS Store? |

I have no personal experience in this area, but I could never figure out how those places make any money. |

I would go talk to a few UPS store owners in different areas. Find them on LinkedIn and message them. It will be difficult to find that exact person on here, but one owner might stumble across your post. I just know that my local UPS store has had the same owner working in it daily for 15+ years, and he's a miserable guy. |

"The UPS Store ads call The UPS Store franchise "the perfect opportunity to be your own boss," a way to "take control of your business future & benefit from a world-class support system." Well, you all brought up a lot of the same things I was thinking. First off, I would never pay them for their services. One time, I had to ship a computer server so I needed a box. I think they wanted and additional $50 for the box and packing peanuts. I walked out, forwent to Target, asked for a box and did it myself. But, by me, they always have people on line. Maybe because am on along Island, where it costs a fortune to live, people don't mind squandering their money for this service. To this day, I only go their to drop off a package with prepaid shipping labels. My good friend knows two people that own them and both are making a lot of money. They seem to make a lot of money on their printing services too. Like anything, many will scream that they make nothing and many will make a good living from it. I'll probably stay away. I would think the monthly rent here on Long Island would be a minimum of $6k/mo. Maybe I'll get a hotdog truck. Just kidding. |

Generalization: franchises are making money for the parent company, not the franchisee. Pick a franchise that looks interesting and then open the same sort of business on your own where you don't have to pay franchise fees or buy the franchise products. You can't open your own UPS store, but you can open one of the rental mail box places and offer all the same services. |

She and her husband ran their UPS store (actually she ran it, it was hers, he just helped out now and then), and they made a very VERY nice income from it. |

Thanks for the input Chessie. I would imagine they have to make money for some owners or else why would there be so many around that stay open? I must be dependent on location and also the owners who often have no idea how to run a business. |
